Yes, it works but it's not a future-proof method. If Google changes its mind, they can give a penalty for translating content. So, the best approach is to translate content and rewrite it using any AI tool.

Sure you can. Who's gonna stop you? Just don't use google translate cause these mother fuckers track and record everything about everyone, even how many times you breathe each day. But otherwise, go for it and don't listen to what google says! According to google, backlink building is gaming the system (which it is) and should not be done because it skews the results. And yet, 99% of the SEOers rank because they build backlinks, and the other 1% SEOers that don't rank is because they listen to google that tells them not to build backlinks.

According to my experience and common sense, you'll just waste your time posting information written in other languages. There will be no result, unless your website is about foreign languages. Anyway, your content should be unique in order to attract more people.

For me it works perfect. I am looking for english sites and then i translate i translate in German. And normally the Google translator has a lot of mistakes, so i have a lot to change. And then its not duplicated content and everything is fine.

If you are looking for long term basis then create dedicated foreign language segment and create social media handle in foreign language promote content using local influencers and publish some press release in local language

From what I understand, following some discussion on BHW, this is feasible only if you do not use google translator as a translation tool and once the articles have been translated they must be modified in order to make them look as original as possible.
