Interesting about "insightful commentary" - is this as obvious as my own voice on a video, or could i draw insightful commentary from multiple external sources? Would that elevate the content from the original podcast clip in the eyes of Youtube?

For example:

- I'm making a short about the invention of toilet paper, I have a guy on Joe Rogan talking about the invention of toilet paper (Voice only). Voice lines from other sources are added (a toilet paper documentary from the 80s, an unrelated podcast talking about the invention of toilet paper. Then all my original visuals (GFX/Stock/Occasionaly back to podcasts) Would me bringing this story together make me eligible?

It could be as little as a voice over put over a clip, or they could expect you to chop multiple clips, add commentary, sound effects, texts, emojis etc.. personally I try to do all of it. The more unique the better, however don't add stuff just for the sake of adding stuff. Shorts need to be quick and highly engaging within the first 5 seconds or they have no chance of going viral. This is hard to do with a podcast clip unless you're leeching off big names or it's something actually interesting. So you probably have to add stuff to keep the viewers attention anyway because everyone has short attention bird brains now. You're probably fine. My channel still gets flagged and demonetized every couple months, I just send an appeal video showing how I edit videos and it's back up within 24-48 hours. As long as you do everything correct you'll be fine. Just avoid the low effort/easy content. It's better to spend your time making one really good video a day/week then pumping out 10+ bullshit videos everyday.

You can record yourself or find transparent video of person who is explaining something. Put that person in some corner of your short. Then you can add an audio layer that will represent what is person talking about. Could be completely fake and non relatable to any subject or language. It helps not getting demonetized, so keep that in mind.

And you can also do that on repeat, same person, same audio.

You know green screen thing? Where you record yourself and then put yourself in some background of a video.

Just do that. It's not cool to share other people content, not even in DM, so I won't do it.


All gamers and content creators actually do it, put their face in some bottom video corner so they are visible to their audience.

Mimic that.

It seems a good method, although my concern would be damaging retention for my niche if the hook of my shorts suddenly has a random dude in the corner.

You can put a wheel that rolls and talks abut jackpot on 10% volume, and see if it damages anything.

I'm just shooting my first thought. Anyway, I wanted to give you this as an useful info that comes in after getting monetized.

You should be able to get monetized easy IMO without any edits now. Good luck bud.

I post Podcast stories, heavily edited (audio is basically just V.O track with visuals being my own animated gfx/stock/etc) & stories are pulled from multiple sources (Original podcast, sourced interviews, documentaries etc). The quality of content is high.

Is there any hope of monetisation on these? Or are podcast clips basically blacklisted?

Wondering if I should pivot into more monetisable content/switch to long-form with the platform I've built already before it's too late if there's no chance to monetize.

Add your narration(critique the video through out and also play the original podcast clip with og audio, you can get monetized that way, basically how most cashcow channels work.

This way you shouldn't attract any issues from YouTube, if you do you can make a video showing how you make the videos and explain you're showing your own face.
