Transferring from {x}.com/{postname} to {x}.com/{cat}/{postname}

Hey,

I would like to transfer my site from {x}.com/{postname} to {x}.com/{category}/{postname}.
Is there any downside to this? Will this have an impact on my website? How long until old pages are deindexed and reindexed with the new URLs?

I am doing this to make my site more categorized, because the URLs of my posts and pages are currently a mess.

I did this for my last site and my rankings did not even move for a bit

Just redirect properly and you are good to go! When google will crawl your posts they will just change url, the SERPS will stay the same.

make sure the urls are properly redirected like @Jeepy said

Or you could end up having traffic dropped like me, lol. This is after I changed my URL structure. Good luck.

Yes, I did. All of my old posts are redirected to new ones. Not only that before having my URL structure changed, whenever there was a new post it would get indexed within hours, now they almost take more than a day or sometimes even more.

I think it's okay to move example-a.com to example-b.com but it's not okay to change the URL structure for every post.
