Transferring articles without loosing SEO value?

Hi everyone. This is my first post on the forum, but I've been using it for years. Thanks for all the quality content!

I just have a quick question. I have a bunch of articles on one site that I would like to transfer to another site. My intention to promote this new site with a bunch of quality articles. The question is, if I unpublish the articles from the old site to publish on the new, will search engines like google write this off as duplicate content even if I remove the articles from the old site?

I am not quite sure, but i think the chance to consider them duplicate is really high if those articles were already indexed at your old site..

also take in mind it will take some time G to deindex the articles from your old site once you delete them from there..
 
Yepp that's dup... Just specifically do 301 redirect for each of them to the new site and that should do the job.. For being secure, you need to publish a domain change request in Google webmasters , but I think you are not gonna move the whole domain is it? If not, then try what I just suggested...
 
Awesome! Thanks guys. g0g01 that is some solid advice. It seems to cover all my angles with the 301 redirect. No confusion about how long it will take to get deindex and instant transfer of hits for the pages already index.

I'm moving all the valuable content off the old site because I don't need to promote the old site any more, but I still want the site up for general traffic.

Will I avoid the duplicate content devaluation with the 301?...the original pages have already been indexed by G and getting solid traffic.

No. That way, you are creating duplicate content. You may try nofollow but I am not sure about the outcome. SOme SEO expert might be able to give you a better idea on that. The only way I could think of is an Iframe. I think someone will post here with a better one :)

Good to know. I guess I'll have to think twice before I post quality content again. It's a shame! I had a couple hundred pages of unique content. Sometimes it take a hard lesson to learn something valuable. Thanks for the help g0g01.
