I've got a niche blog with a very high-quality 7,000-word article that has over 1,000 organic social shares and is ranking for some of the main keywords. I'm setting up another blog now which will be taking my full focus and am in the process of building authority content there.

What I want to ask is what the best way to transfer the goodness from this article to my new blog is? Is it just a case of reposting on the new blog and setting a canonical tag at the original or is this not the best way to achieve this?

If you copy the article to the new blog, this is plagiarism and it's against Google TOS. My advice is to rewrite it.

...Just my two cents

For new blog you should post new articles also, if you use only the old articles with canonical tag means then how google will consider your blog?

Sure, it was just for a single article because that article is 7,000-words long and is an authority piece in a very competitive niche. There are already 20+ original articles on the site

You can either 301 old URL to the new one

OR

You can use a canonical tag from old URL to the new one, if you don't want to detail etc.

Both will work just fine, without an issue.

Try to use blockquote tag to get the content from other source

Remove the content from the old domain and block that page in robo.txt file or wait for uncache the content (It may take quite long time)

Move article to a new blog and do proper 301 from old URL to a new URL, this should be enough.
