Does anybody subscribe to the fact that DA PA TF are all BS that won't help a site? I recently read something that said none of this is a good indicator of how powerful the link will be because Google is paying attention to traffic. I hadn't thought of it really before, but it does make sense. I am no engineer but seems like Traffic would be a good indicator by this time for Google to decide how valuable a link is.

If I were counting links I'd do my best to count the links from sites with high traffic and low bounce rate (though not sure how they would get that) vs these other factors.

It's not true that traffic is the only indicator. There are tons of factors and easiest for me is number of referring domains. Rule of thumb metric.

It's true, that metrics are made by third party and doesn't always reflect the strength of the backlink.

And how exactly do you want to measure traffic of a potential backlink? Merely by relying on some other third party data, so not that you have too many options there.

Its true that all metrics are BS, good only for initial sorting. Of course they do not HELP the website, they are just a third party tools trying to measure the strength of the backlinks. However the traffic is equally bad measurement as well - you can have website that have lots of shitty forum/comment links, but a lot of traffic simply because is full of gossips about Kim Kardashian plastic surgery and pictures of her ass for example. On the other end of the specter is highly specialized website about some medical procedures with tons of good backlinks, but the traffic of course would be a lot less since the target auditorium is just few thousands people. So from where you prefer to have link for your health related website?

most profiles or webs 2.0 have zero link juice (internal power) from root domain. so if you are making a profile or a web 2.0, you count only on the authority of the domain, not on link juice. here traffic is okay indicator, big healthy traffic builds links

in case of pbns these domains dont have as much traffic as facebook or yahoo/twitter/whatever but whole link juice is yours. vote for RD here.

Not entirely true but yes, organic traffic is a better indicator of your domain's affinity then just third party metrics.
