Traffic = Making cash?

Have been reading and absorbing on here for a few months, some great info.
I started with Adsense and EPN via my blogs but made pennies.
Have a e-commerce website 50% complete (it has thousands of products i need to input!) but my main question is getting traffic.
This is surely the one thing that drives the rest, without traffic- no clicks - no sales - no money.
I have tried forum posts, tweaking for google / yahoo and loads of other methods but traffic is still poor, any ideas or suggestions on how to improve will be gratefully recieved.....

maybe you have to find a working market research, rather than jump to a big sea of traffic garbage.
