My website's traffic from Web Stories has suddenly dropped. Earlier, I was getting at least 4000 users per day from web stories. Last week, I asked my technical team to add certain categories for web stories. After they added the web stories, the next day, I observed a huge drop in the web stories traffic. No, I am not getting any traffic from web stories. I don't know what has happened. Can anybody guide me on this?

I recommend conducting a technical audit, reviewing user engagement metrics, and checking Google Search Console for any errors. Consider temporarily reverting the changes or A/B testing to identify the cause. Aligning your content with the keywords and topics that were driving traffic before the changes could help restore your traffic levels.

Bro, those new categories might have broken your Web Stories. Check the setup again I think it's probably a quick fix

how do i check the root cause? I mean how do I give proof to the tech team that they have done something wrong & have created issues in the category?

Here are some suggestions you'll take to analyze and address the issue:

1. Technical issues : Changes to your website's structure, such as including unused categories, might have accidentally caused technical issues. Guarantee that your web stories are still legitimately ordered by Google. You'll utilize the Google Look Comfort to check for any ordering mistakes.

2. Content Quality : Including unused categories might have influenced the pertinence of your web stories. Guarantee that the substance inside these categories is high-quality and important to your group of onlookers

3. Algorithm Changes : Now and then, a drop in activity can be due to changes in Google's Algorithm. Check in case there have been any later overhauls that might have impacted your site's positioning,

4. Plugin Clashes : In the event that you're utilizing WordPress, there can be clashes together with your theme or plugins. Briefly switch to a default topic and debilitate plugins to see in the event that the issue holds on

5. User Engagement : Analyze user engagement to see in case there have been any changes in how clients connected along with your web stories. Instruments like Google Analytics can give bits of knowledge into client engagement

6. Manual Actions : Check on the off chance that your site has received any manual actions from Google.

7. Performance Report : Look at the performance of your Web Stories to distinguish in case a specific category or set of stories is causing the drop.

8. Roll Back Changes : If possible, revert the changes made by your technical team and monitor whether the traffic returns to normal. This can help isolate the issue and confirm if the changes are the cause of the drop.

Did the newly add pages are indexed or not. Check your GSC for any manual actions. Did you submit the updated sitemap to GSC?

Site Audit is best option to start with. Have you checked if permalinks are changed?

For curiosity, what are web stories? Is it web stories in Netflix or OTT platforms?

First, try to identify the date since the traffic is down (as accurately as possible), and then check what was updated approximately in those days. The traffic you have been getting can be recovered if there is any technical reason behind it, but if the reason is just google algorithm no more giving enough exposure then there might be no further opportunity to get it back and you will need to create further strategy to get the attention again.

Go over the changes made by your technical team. Ensure that the categories added are correctly implemented and do not interfere with the existing structure of your web stories.

also Do a thorough technical SEO audit to ensure there are no other underlying issues affecting your web stories.

Please check if your newly added pages are indexed, review Google Search Console for errors, ensure the new categories are correctly implemented, and analyze user behavior in Google Analytics. If the issue continues, consult your technical team for a detailed analysis.

Web story traffic can drop due to algorithm changes, content quality, competition, technical issues, or user preference shifts. To address this, analyze performance, optimize content, check for technical issues, stay updated on trends, and promote stories across channels.
