Hi,

I would like to ask if this is normal. I have one blog (WordPress on my website) under www.mysite.com/blog/article

I have deleted wordpress from my server as the blog is not used anymore and after that, i have redirected trough httaccess the old URLs to the main site. Basically, i did this

Redirect 301 www.mysite.com/blog www.mysite.com
Redirect 301 www.mysite.com/blog/article www.mysite.com

Is this the correct way to do it?

I'm experiencing a huge drop in serps and i dont know if it's a just a spike/dance.

Thanks,

This^^

In any case OP, what you did is delete content and pages (posts), so there is nothing really surprising to lose traffic. One way to investigate is to look in your analytics which URL used to get traffic (other than home page). Also look for what keywords you used to rank for (and corresponding URL).

Removing the blog is a risky move which should be only done for a good reason. Some people have done it successfully, but there is always a risk.

I have modified the .httaccess now, I'm gonna wait a few days to see if it's coming back.

The point is - that blog wasn't getting traffic but had some decent backlinks with proper anchors to be redirected to the main page, so that's why i did it.

Thank you, time will tell from now on.

Really interesting topic. But I don't understand the whole code can some one post whole code.thanks

Yes, it's normal.

301 redirect moving ONLY backlinks power.
But previously you had posts which was in Google ranking.

After deleting all posts, this part of traffic disappeared.

Best regards,
Greg.
