Traffic cut in half after "mobelizing" my website

So I was going through my e-mails two days ago when I received an e-mail from google (yes, it was an actual email from them), recommending that I should make my website more "mobile" friendly. I have the Arras theme installed for desktop users, and it's badass.. but not the most mobile friendly. So I thought hey, that's not a bad idea.. sense a lot of my traffic is mobile anyway. I started looking around and found a plugin called "WP Mobile Edition", which is a plugin that basically recognizes any mobile phone user and switches to one of their basic integrated mobile themes. I installed it, tested it out with my smart phone, all was good. Now, two days later. I have seen a dramatic drop in my traffic. Especially low for a friday.. (with my niche, fri and weekends is always wayyyy good traffic) but it appears to have literally cut itself in half. This has happened for two days in a row. Now call me paranoid.. and maybe I should wait a week or so before actually drawing conclusions.. but something seems very wrong here. I've had my website open for almost a year now, I've seen fluctuations, but I like to think I KNOW my traffic by now. Do you think this plugin had anything to do with it? Should it be uninstalled? I realize I probably should have just switche to a more mobile and simple theme to begin with.. but I really don't see anything wrong with the plugin, and does have good reviews. Is this just google some doing some weird "dance" and freaking out because I made a rather dramatic change (mind you, one that THEY recommended)? Will this eventually pass? I am losing money here. :/

Some plugins slow you down which can have an effect, though I wouldn't have thought enough to halve it.

Take a look at your own site through various mobile devices and decide how you prefer it. By using a plug in you have let someone else decide how your site will look to mobile devices and some are pure crap.

Its best to pick themes that are mobile ready so you don't face compatibility issues. Are you doing adsense?

I think it depends on how you do it.

Surely browser sniffing and alternating css appropriately will not result in duplicate content, I would imagine if you actually had an alternate mobile site which switched in, appropriately you might.

I would be interested to hear others opinions.

Today is day 3 now and I've come to the conclusion that something is seriously very wrong here.. I've now disabled the plugin. Going to see if I can at least get traffic back to where it used to be.

I didn't understand, does this plugin make a non-responsive theme responsive but using a custom site? It looks like the mobile traffic is not counting as yours anymore.

Google sometimes reacts dramatically when your entire site theme changes. This may be the cause, you should probably wait it out a week or two before drawing any conclusions.

You can always test if the reason for the drop was the plugin or the upgrade to being mobile friendly. Revert back the changes and see what happens. Otherwise, maybe its a penalty that coincidentally happened with your upgrade or something else.
