Was my experience buying from tradetang good or bad? Depends on how you look at it.
I knew the deal, lived in Beijing for several years and got scammed on more than a few things until I wised up. But, they have several streets in the city that sell nothing but Guitars. I bought brand new mim strats for 45 dollars each, and was more than happy. Sure they are copies, but very good copies.
So once stateside and wanting to get a couple of LP's in my arsenal, but not wanting to peal out thousands for them, I usd the tradetang site. I bought two LP customs in early 2010 and they are beautiful. No problem with the electronics or finish. A friend owns a Music shop, and he is baffled by the apparent quality, ever the serial #'s checked out. However, my two custom LP's are stamped one serial # digit apart. I know they are fake, but who cares, I paid 300 bucks apiece for them.
Next, I bought a EDS 1275. Again, looks great, and plays perfect! Problem is, it has a Les Paul Logo on the headstocks. Unless it was made between 1961-1963, there is no SG manufactured with Les Pauls name, he hated the SG and made them take it off. This guitar is labeled from the Gibson Custom Shop, whatever. It sounds good and plays great! Still I was a bit miffed at the obvious mistake, and the thing won't fit in a standard eds1275 case ( but the case works perfectly for my OLP doubleneck, so it's good)
Then I bought a 'American Strat' and a 'American Tele'. Yawn, not impressed. They were only 225.00 each and play well, but up close the quality isn't what I expected after the LP's. Playing the heck out of them though. I also got a LP standard, 1960 VOS that I liked better than the fenders. Really nice Guitar for the 250.00 it cost, but the thing weighs too light for a real LP.
The disappointment came with the Gretsch BS Nashville. The headstock is wrong and logo is a cheap grey stick on. Pickup switch doesn't work in the 1st position. Basically, a pretty POS. I complained to the seller, and as the other stories here, no good response. I decided it was worth at least something, and got over it, though I'd never use this obvious fake to gig with. I quit buying after that, figured I was ahead.
But, there was a 'Taylor' with a lipstick pu I had my eye on. It's been a few months, so I checked back, and TradeTang has removed the name brands from the guitars. Same Guitars, no name. Just as well, I have way too many guitars, been adding a couple a year for the last 30 years. Wife has put her foot down now, the closets are full, so TradeTang did me a favor.
I'd have to say from the guitars I bought like this, The forgers got too good and I was overall lucky to get my hands on the ones I got before the axe fell. But the value is all within my understanding of what I was going to get, and there is no way I could ever sell any off them knowing the source.

Only experience with TT I've had was with Virtual Items, and I've been really good. Haven't had experience with physical items though.
