Hi guys,

Didn't really know where to post this, but hopefully this is the right place.

Just wondering do many people on here own trademarked domains/sites? And if you do, do you use another name to register the domain or whatever?

I've a site that's making a decent amount of money but I'm starting to get worried, don't want to take any chances.

You should be really careful, depending on the brand you're targeting. I mean, Coca-Cola would probably don't care about your domain, but if they would, they could get it down very easily.

Maybe try domainsbyproxy. :)
 
Don't do it. The only scenario where you could reasonably expect to get away with it, is on a 'commentary' or 'review' site, where you are not making any financial gain by your use of the brand. Otherwise, keep watching your back for a UDRP or worse.

Some TM owners are litigious, some are not. Just because you see others getting away with it, it doesn't mean you will.

Just my 2c.
 
Thanks guys. One problem though, this is making $100s a month.

I just want to get some money for it and move on.

It's nearly 2 years old btw.

Yeah. Here's a potentially silly question:

Let's say the site has a lot of unique content on it about something like: laptops.

Would it be a good idea to cancel the domain and set up a new site about laptops and then put the content on the new site?

Would google love or hate this?
 
There is potential risk in it. Most of the brands are not care about it if you promoting only that brand. If you using trademarked domain for promoting their competitors, chances for losing is high. If your site is small, then they will not care about it.

They COULD start to care about it in a heartbeat. OP - read the comments on that site in the post above.

Actually they do. I'm in the same category. I made a site that was trademarked and now their lawyer is talking with me. Although they can't get me anyway (check my country) but well, I'm a respectable person. They have the total right to ask for it and I will happily transfer it to them. They even offered me the money I paid but I refused taking it. I'm the guy who made a mistake here after all.

I'd do the exact same as you to be honest. I'd have no problem giving away the domain and site, I just don't want to get in to huge trouble.
 
It really depends on the trademark, as others have mentioned you are dancing on thin ice. Again it depends on the the company, but some are absolutely ruthless with domains that infringe on their trademarks.

Generally speaking its only a matter of time until you get a C&D, but with some companies you may get away with it for a while. My recommendation is to diversify and don't count on this income for the long term.

What exactly is a C&D? Does it just mean that I have to hand over the site to them?

If that's it I don't mind doing that. I'm trying to create other sites that don't have any issues like this by the way :)
