[Trademark Issue] Should I Keep this Domain?

I recently bought an expired domain that looks pretty similar to an authority website.

For example -

The authority site is - reviews.com
And my domain name is - reviewed.com

I am planning to create almost similar content that the authority site does.

Will it create any trademark issues in the future? If so, what should I do now?

Your advice will be much appreciated.

Check if that website has an existing trademark.

If you are planning to copy or duplicate content or any ideas from the main site, you might get into trouble. What you can do is, you can give them a different concept while providing the same alike content.

I searched the authority site name on http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/ and didn't find any trademark information. But https://uspto.report/ shows that it has a trademark.

Note: The domain I bought has no trademark.

I am not planning to copy anything.

Let's say the authority site name is carreviews.com and it has all the contents related to cars, car cares, car accessories, deals, brand reviews, and everything related to cars.

My domain name is carreviewed.com and I am planning to write content related to cars and car accessories reviews. I am not planning to write everything related to cars. This is the only difference I can mention.

Will it still make any trouble in the future??

It could. If it appears there could be confusion about the brand.

The problem is your examples are too generic. Nobody can trademark the word "cars" or "reviews".

It is significant that you plan to be in the same market. That will add to your competitor's case.

If it is a big brand that wants to pursue, you could have problems. For example, if you use disnee and are in the niche of children's toys and cartoons you would be hit by Disney over trademark.

If you are in a different market then it may not be an infringement. Delta airlines, Delta hotels and Delta Pizza are all different companies with their own trademarks, for example.

Check out http://nissan.com. He successfully fought off Nissan but he cannot use the domain for anything car related. He keeps it up and hosts the history of the lawsuit.

@RRuner thanks for the insight. Time to stay away from Nissan, too, now. I've successfully given up using Nestle 3 years ago, and google 1 year ago. Time to deal with these money-hungry corps
