Trademark domain

Hi guys, I'm new here and now that school is over I was thinking lately about entering the website industry and was wondering if altering a trademark so that I can register it as a domain legal?
For example, with youtube, would I be able to register youtoob as a domain or is that infringing on their trademark? Thanks again guys!

These kind of typos and alterations are always considered violation of the original trademark. There are special lawyers for that kind of stuff and you won't stand a chance in front of that domain committee or whatever it is. Also all of the profitable typos are already taken by experienced domainers or retrieved back to original owners.

Some brands are more lenient about their trademarks and won't sue you. Others are downright ruthless. I don't know that youtoob is a violation on youtube, but then again I'm not a lawyer.

Yes, the internet's had FAR enough time for people to buy up similar domains to existing ones. I wouldn't buy a similar domain anyway since you'll just be a shadow of the other. Make a brandable domain of your own instead, that's all they did in the start.

Thanks for your time and responses everyone, I really learned a lot! I guess I'll take my time with this website hosting idea for awhile until I understand the basics and everything. Thanks again guys!

It depends on:
1. Whether there's a "likelihood for consumer confusion" between your trademark and Youtube's
2. Whether you use the trademark in a similar way (e.g., also an online video website!?)
3. How strong and well-recognized the trademark's brand is (in this case, very strong)
All this would need to be argued out in court. Of course, you can always register the domain and wait to see if Youtube threatens to sue you.
