Tracking Your Efforts

Just wandering how everyone tracks their BH efforts, what do you use to record all your blasts, link building, progress, blogs etc.

Do you have a spread sheet and record all your monthly progress etc.

Its a nightmare looking after multiple sites and tracking what you have done and what you need to do.

I have just started using basecamp for this but I think a handy spreadsheet may be more effective for a quick reference.

i think an SEO Black Hat Project management software would be great....anyone fancy building it.

something that would record all your efforts, list all your account logins, links, blasts, articles etc. with a to-do list and progress report.

I would pay $47 per month for that.

You mean something like this that you can have on your desktop?

I may release this for a low fee..it does a bunch of other stuff too, but it's mainly used for tracking backlinking efforts. God knows we use all kinds of tools..it helps to be able to consolidate efforts in one place. This started life as a site commander tool, but then I realized that I could use it to manage link creators, keywords (at the time), and other stuff. It really works well from the 50k foot level to see all of your sites in one place, see when google last visited your site, and then build out new content appropriately to make 'em keep coming back. At one point I even put an adsense tracker in to tie it into the adsense api (also did some curl pulls from clickbank per tracking id to see if sites were selling daily too) and pull from their to see how much money you were making daily. Haven't updated or played with the tool in awhile, so you guys just gave me some incentive i think lol

Automated scripts to track rank / traffic / money and then import those into an Excel spreadsheet. Excel is actually a great tool if you put in the effort to learn it, great for manipulating data, sorting, making graphs etc. I use StatsRemote to get an overview of most of my $$$ stats.

This is prob one of those things whatever works best for you. If you are visual maybe draw out a diagram. If not an excel is always the easiest way to go. If you have the money then ranktracker or linkemperor are good choices

Count me in, can you have the ability to store UN and PW alongside each of your properties? if not then that would be a great addition.

Again, it's mainly a link organizer per site you may have so in essence you could fire up any tool you want, build out your links per site and then do an export list and dump into my tool. That way, at least you've got some idea from an organizational point of view what you're at least attempting to do

I use a perl regex google scraper script that I made.

Do you think if I posted a short perl scraper tutorial people would find that valuable (complete with the actual code of course)? I'm not gonna waste an hour making it if everybody will complain about how it's useless to them.

Youve got me all excited to see this now, when will it be ready. Just some other ideas too:

A report output featuring what has been done for selected week/month etc
charts/graphs to show increase/decrease in rankings/PR etc since last update

Well, basically I was just going to show people how it can be automated, and then they can utilize it how they need it. It's not really a tool, more of a small tutorial in how you can make your own scraper to do exactly what you need.

Well, timetable for release, if I can free up some time, maybe by Wednesday. There's a bunch of beta code in there I need to take out to clean things up (old features/functionality that died out when Google switched things up) so that everyone can use it.

I like the idea of the reports, but rankings/PR probably won't make it into the release.
