I've set up URL shortening (and spider-blocking using robots.txt) using the Wordpress plugin 'Simple URLs'. In addition to (sort of) cloaking my outbound links the Simple URLs plugin also keeps a running total of clicks made on each of the URLs it creates. But there's no way to sort or filter these 'click records' provided with the plugin for the purposes of reporting. The site (unavoidably) has G__gle Analytics (GA) installed, so I may as well call on that for better tracking. So I figure I could use one of the many G_0_gl_ Analytics event tracker URL builders out there to setup some proper outbound click tracking in GA. So should I add the tracking info (E.G ?utm_source=CarpCampaign&utm_medium=HomeSite&utm_campaign=FishingCarp) to the target (external) URL before shrinking it in Simple URLs, or should I shove the URL Simple URLs creates into the event tracking url builder and use the resulting UTM appended url on outbound links on my site?
