I have a case that a buyer opened up today. He claims he never received the item.
I checked the tracking number and it shows it was delivered to him literally the next day
from when he ordered it back in June.

The problem is, on ebay, when you list the tracking number, it doesn't allow you to put a dash
"-" in the tracking number. Some tracking numbers with certain carriers uses a dash in the number
like Lasership and Pony Express.

For example if the tracking number for Lasership is 123456789-0, on ebay it will only allow you to
enter it as 1234567890 (no dash). The problem with this is the dash is REQUIRED. So on ebay
the tracking number 1234567890 doesn't show any progress or information or delivery. So the buyer
probably thinks he has me. But the tracking number 123456789-0 when you enter it at Lasership tracking website will show up and clearly show the item delivered to his address, time and date.

In the resolution center, I updated the tracking number there too for the notes but it still only records
the tracking number as 1234567890. If the buyer escalates the case after 3 days, when an ebay
officers manually reviews this case, are they going to read the notes and understand that they
need to see Lasership tracking number 123456789-0 and not 1234567890? Because the latter
won't show up as valid tracking number.

You can explain it on ebay resolution center as you explain here, when it come to manual review, there is chance that ebay will read the back and forth discussion, well at least worth to try.

They usually do read the notes before making a decision, but it's not always guaranteed.

Why would ebay not allow a "-" (dash) in tracking numbers??? Tracking numbers have dashes in a lot of them but they remove the dash and just join the numbers and that's what makes the tracking number invalid or unsearchable until they enter it properly with the dash.

Take a picture of the tracking info, upload it to a site like imgur.com and post the link to the picture explaining the - issue.

Yes, I have left hopefully a clear explanation in the notes and links to the tracking site. So far the buyer has not responded nor as escalated the case yet....I'll keep you posted.
