Tracking hops through optin/email lists?

I'm going to launch a new product soon, I'm thinking of have two landing pages, squeeze page and regular sales letter.. I know clickbank tracks hops through autoresponder but do I have to do something special? Or is it just a cookie & if so how long does the cookie last?
