I wanna do some product research and was thinking about tracking my competitor sales to make sure they are not in the red.

Right now I'm thinking about tracking the stock info on their product page

I know about the "order by best selling" hack but that doesn't tell me how much they make.

I'm gonna target small website with average ads and average product page to see if they sell their product.

If even they do it must mean the product is a winner.

Hello slimshade,

Are you asking how to track competitor sales or you already have a method?

I'm keen to learn ways to track sales as well.

I've seen extensions for sale to track Amazon sales data and get accurate numbers. If it's small shopify store likely no way short of backdoor to their admin panel

Another way to find out, is to order a product, see how the invoice number is generated, a monthly number, yearly, etc. Check back in 1 month, and see if that number increased and by how much.

Then do an average of what a usual person will order and multiply that with the number of invoices generated.

From this, cut 5-10% as a margin. You should get good insight at least.

Apparently alidropship is doing it but I don't know how.

Not all website include how many items are left in stock too.

But newbie always leave that. (if newbie can sell an item it must mean the item sell itself)

Could pm webmaster to buy ad space or pose as some service provider eg conversion rate optimization, email copywriter. From there ask what monthly sales numbers look like to establish a baseline

Seems like a good idea!

I doubt if you can accurately track that data. Unless you got a admin access. Its just a 50 50 kind of thing.
