Hi all

I'm kinda new to offline marketing, but I have an idea that I think could make a nice profit, supplying clients/leads to some of the local brick and mortar businesses around here.

The only problem is... how do I track it? no websites are involved.

The owners could easily "adjust" the numbers to their favor ("what? you only gave us 1 customer, not 150.. take 2 bucks!" and such things that would be hard for me to prove)

So... any ideas?

Thanks!

This is an ancient thread, but there are several routes you could go with. The best way for both of you to know how well your marketing is working is to have some type of token which can be tracked. This can be super easy or super complex.

One token would be their receipt. Incentive-ize the process and request a copy of their receipts as proof of purchase. Perhaps work with your Client and agree that any referrals you send in will receive $ off their purchase, as a rebate, and your Client pays $2 (per your example) over the rebate amount, directly to you. You are in charge of the rebate system, so you know when and what people are buying from your Clients.

Use your imagination. There are a lot of other ways to do this.

Either way, my recommendation is to not get into business with people who would lie to you.

All I can suggest to do a reverse engineering of the setup like what goal you want to come out of this offline marketing you are aiming for. Then you take it from there and narrow down the steps till you get the nitty gritty of this business. It might be challenging though. But always keep your eye on loopholes and come up with contingency plan coz this might be prone to manipulating the figures, etc.

How are you driving traffic in? If paper 'coupon' then simply ask the business to keep track of the coupons (collect in a bucket behind the counter) that are redeemed so you can come back to track which ones are most successful.

If they want more traffic, they'll also want you to keep promoting. If they're going to cheat you, you'll hear it in your initial conversation.
