I know this isn't normally within the topics of BHW, but it's just something I'd like to know.

Is there some way to figure out who has a cell number similar to the way you could look up the DNS whois on websites?

I'm just curious because apparently somebody is threatening one of my friends from a random number, and he'd just like to know who this person is.

It seems that there's no free way to do this though according to Google, but I'm just wondering if somebody here might know something.

First of all, if there's threatening phone calls in this situation, posting it on a forum I wouldn't be doing, rather, I'd call the police department and would provide them with the phone number so "they" can do "their" job of tracing the number back to the owner which will ultimately lead them to the callers location.

I wouldn't classify the situation serious enough for police, I think it's more towards the line of maybe harrassment/prank. Poor phrasing on my part, sorry.

It's not a huge deal, he's just curious if there's a method to figure out who it is, otherwise he'll just ignore it.

You really think "they" are going to do "their" job lmao, smh, sigh... so snitchy..

OP - Unless the person slipped up and publicized the number online, Google won't be of much help. Your path of lease resistance is to buy a subscription to one of the reverse number lookups, which I know is not what you wanted to hear. Sorry bud.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I was hoping it wouldn't come to that though :P

Just get your friend to block the number, and if the person gets a new number then have them contact the police since its a possible stalker.

Yeah, most likely will just block the number and leave it at that. I doubt police intervention is necessary for something like this.

As of now there is no way of getting personal details from mobile numbers, unless you have a close pal working with the cell phone company. Such details are available only to police and govt agencies.

It depends on how many times the person called and what they are threatening your friend with.

I also think its possible to track it down but only if the person have android or ios phone

You can find his name using truecaller.com may be he is one of his friend and doing for fun. But there is only way give complain in police

Hmm...a phone number tracing website....hmm, CPA...hmm, I just gave out a great idea, go bank!

@OP, glad to know it was nothing serious, just block him as people said.

if you were in indonesia, i could done for you for around $500, tracing some number its not too difficult, and need some authority to cell phone provider and that cost some money. little bad side is the tracing work not too precisely, (around 50 meter radius)

I also think if you know his/her gmail account you can track it very easy. Also social networks everything but by the sim card No, only if you are CIA

Depends on the threat, if it's not serious, then I would just ignore it. If possible, block the number or report the number. Aside from that, if the threats are serious, report it to the police.
