Pinterest seems to have rolled out a change that are displaying total number of pins and likes for that particular image. The changes have not yet reached all of my accounts, but it's showing in quite a few. Any of you seeing these?

So basically, my feeds and /pins pages are showing numbers in the xx,xxx repins. It's a good way to understand the kind of numbers viral pins are reaching. My 2 best pins that are pulling over 500 uniques per day have been repinned over 30k times.

But I hope that these display are not the future for the pins. It makes it very difficult to glance at how an account is doing because there are overwhelming numbers to absorb. I'm not even sure how displaying these numbers would be important to the pinning community. It should, however, be available to business account owners as part of the analytics.

What's your thoughts?

I think that the number of repins are much more on your account.
It'l affect your account very badly after a few more repins.

i noticed this happening for months but only on certain accounts (mostly ghosted/spam ones)

Hope not because my strongest account has this feature. It still gets a fair amount of repins and engagement. So I know it's not ghosted. Same goes for my other affected accounts.

I did notice that there's an /activity page for this format and it documents the global repins for that particular image. And this /activity page is inactive for unaffected accounts. I could see the /activity page and total pins #s being useful for business accounts especially the stat nerds who's interested in how well their images are doing throughout the Pinterest system along with the performance of their competitors. But I think it's useless for the common user who only cares about how well their account is doing.

I'm also thinking that the display of total count is a bug because it's only seen in browsers and not completely rolled out. But no one seems to be talking or complaining about it, so it's not a priority to fix.

In the meantime, use it for intel on competitors, gauge which pins in your desired niche are doing well and see if you can learn how to dominate.

This is not a bug, like previous posts have said. I asked their customer support what the hell is going on a few months ago this is an intended feature they are testing on certain accounts.
Hi Anna, I'm Darcie, a fellow pinner and member of the Pinterest Expert community. It sounds like you're seeing our new way counting up repins and likes. Instead of showing just the number of times your version of the Pin was liked or repinned, you?re seeing a sum of all the repins and likes this Pin (with the same image and link) has ever gotten. We hope this makes it easier to quickly get a sense of how popular or useful a Pin is in one glance. If you look at the Pin close up and tap More Activity, you can see every person who?s ever saved or liked it, the board they saved it to, and what they commented on the Pin. Just tap the speech bubble with a + to add a comment of your own! In this new counting method, it?s not possible to see the repin and like counts for your version of the Pin, or to see the exact, un-abbreviated total counts. We can?t turn this off for your account, but we?ll pass your thoughts along to our team so they can use your ideas and feedback to improve this experience.
Your best bet at getting your account removed from from them testing this feature on your account is to fill this out and tell them to take you off) (take off the * in the link below I am not allowed to post links yet on BHW) htt*ps://docs*.google*.com/forms/d/1jkCkXdGZdobUSdzrJLIv0mcHWv1l7c-oZyZ_IUlPdDU/viewform?c=0&w=1 I did this and never got it removed though.

Thanks a bunch. This clears up some of my questions. I still think it's useless for most users other than business accounts simply because average users only care about how their boards and followers are engaging. A non-business account who's running a popular groupboard would go to that board and like to see how many repins, comments, etc for that board only. They won't care about how pins are doing overall throughout the entire Pinterest system. They'll be overwhelmed with info.
