TOR = Good?

Here's my looking-for-free-proxies experience boiled down to a minimum:
TOR = SLOW, clunky, hard to tell if it's working or has simply locked up your browser, instructions in 25 languages - all conflicting. I spent 2 months trying to save $30. RESULT: Uninstalled it
ONION & similar = Never worked for me, period. RESULT: Deleted it/them
Foxyproxy+proxy lists = The tech equivalent of looking through the garbage for something you can sell on ebay. The FF add-in doesn't work with the lists, OR the lists are outdated, OR full of trojan loads. The few working proxies are all jammed with script kiddies doing torrent d/ls of porn. RESULT: Uninstalled Funkyproxy.
Most junk found on BH and DP forums regarding proxies = useless (but free) crap. Only about 1 in 50 knows what the h*ll they're talking about, the rest are BSing for rep. RESULT: Wasted a few weeks combing through this jungle, looking for something that worked more than 5 minutes before failing.
Cloakfish = Works, amazingly small but confusing interface (my account was paid for but not 'activated' because I had not gone into CF and manually 'activated' it after paying...WTF?). You have to set up proxy 'groups' manually (proxy IP by proxy IP). Once you get it going, it works but is not as fast as some other paid proxies. RESULT: Used it for 3 months, cancelled because another solution worked better.
I ended up using HideMyIp's premium proxies. It works better than anything else I've tried under $100/month...to my utter astonishment, since they had completely crapped out until about May of 2009 when they suddenly started working again.
I don't pretend to have tried everything free/paid in the world. I stopped when I found something that worked. For me, it's more productive to spend $30 per quarter than several hours a week trying to keep my home-built proxy situation bolted together.

So many of TOR's IP's are blocked that I haven't used it in ages. Like apeKillape said, take a look at the stickies up there 
Are you joking?
Try using selected IPs and all you get is 2 alternating IPs.
There's nothing you can do with these IPs as they are blocked or ghosted trying to use them for anything.
There aren't any websites (including BH) that these proxies work on.
I'm curious why you keep pushing this product.

I just logged off Tor. I'm using Vidalia with Foxy Proxy and as others have said...it is horribly slow. So slow that I've been waiting half an hour for an account confirmation to hit my fake email address. So slow that when I goto check email I get an error because page loading time is (you guessed it!) too slow.
There has to be a better way!!! Hopefully some others can provide some insight.
**Tor will change your IP and you can confirm this on several sites, but it is so painfully slow you probably won't be able to accomplish what you set out to do in the first place.

It is slow and I don't think you can select a certain country's IP that you want to use, it is just random, or can you? Suppose i want to use a US proxy in TOR, how do i do that?

Tried TOR about 4 years ago tried to open google.com it still loads........

I just checked out TOR with Vidalia for Mac, and it works perfectly. However, the speed of the page download seems to cap at 16kbps. Which is 25% that of dial-up. But it's so protected it's rather reasonable. Still, 16kbps on a connection that I can usually get thousands... sucks a bit.
