Top10 in google, 2 million competitors

Ive got a website about the credit crunch, a dutch version of it. Im having 2.100.000 competitors and Ive been 5th, am stil in the top10 now at the first page.
Its http://kredietcrisis.jouwpagina.nl ,, What I have done is adding to a few social bookmarking sites, pageranks 4-7. And at a few .gov/.edu blogs ive posted a link in the comments.
Ive also got a rss feed from a newswebsite at the page which is important for google ranking I think because Google wants fresh content.

How many competitors are there for your keyword with quotes?
Depending on how long you want your site to rank, then it could take a few days to a couple of weeks.
If you want to the site to be a long-term site, you definitely don't want to overdue it, and you'll want to protect that site so that it becomes an authority site.

And its not always about how many competing sites their are. You need to check out how many backlinks the competing sites have. I have seen some cases where it is really easy to rank good with a lot of competing sites because they dont have that much backlinks.
2 million results for keyword with quotes, competitors have few hundered backlinks on average (as seen in yahoo site explorer). Most of them are doing blackhat too, probably

You need more backlinks than the top 10 guys.

Yep. Just like Flesh and Manu said, backlinks are important.
From what you're saying, I take it you are not making this an authority site but a quick-hit site.
If you are going for the long term, make sure you protect your site or Google may catch on to your BH strategies and your site could be de-indexed or lose ranking pretty fast.

How much traffic do you get after your blogs get indexed?

depends what I'm doing, some things are better for affiliate earnings and yahoo answer traffic, others are better for just SE traffic and adsense.
I don't get major traffic cos I barely have any backlinks, just social bookmarks and few squidoos etc.
bout 300-400 per day per blog after its been up for a month or so.
times that by how ever many blogs, it can work. You just have to be committed.

Try Xrumer for BH linkbuilding... That tool will def serve your needs... pure blackhat!

It's called Pay Per Click (PPC)
...and it's as BH as you get - G makes a killing, but you make first page every time.

How can you check out how many backlinks your competition has? This would make it easy for you set the bar of where you need to be.

Use Yahoo site explorer.
Go to yahoo.com > type in linkdomain:www.thedomain.com
You can see where your competitors are getting their backlinks form and how many etc.
Google sucks balls for backlink checking.

I never knew that... my top competition only has like 4k in back links...I should be able to take him out
