So the backstory to why I want to delve deeper into a domain is because I found a unicorn.
I am trying very hard to rank for a keyword that has quite a bit of competition, with a lot of old sites ranking for it. I managed to reach #4 once, but I keep going up and down from 6-20# usually. The keyword is 35 diff on semrush and 30 diff on ahrefs.
One day, I checked up on the rankings on semrush and saw that I slipped back into top 20, no big deal, happens every now and then. But when I took a look who were the top 10 I was confused.
All of them were big players, very old sites in this niche for decades even - except for this one little guy who started his site back in April/March... He was top 3.
I investigated his site further and day by day he was dominating the serps for all of my niches keywords, I'm talking insane growth. Thousands of keywords reaching the top 100 every day. This site should receive anywhere from 50-250K unique users daily.
His website? Nothing special. No nice seo-tricks or unique content or anything else, very very simple site with simple content.
Using ahrefs and semrush, his profile backlink profile is almost non-existent. Three backlinks from sites in similar niche which are blank domains that have nothing on them, those links have random spammy backlinks as well their DA on semrush or ahrefs isn't even registering.
How is this growth possible? A brand new player with no unique content or anything special just explodes on very high comp keywords.
Perhaps there are other tools to investigate this? This is not possible by whitehat, some blackhattery or google RNG has struck and I would like to find out how
