Can you give me an example keyword and an example site from the top 10 for that keyword... Then I can show you exactly what I do... doesn't have to be your actual keyword or site... just something good enough for the example.

For starters I do not see that website in the top 100 for "77 recipes" are you sure you are logging out of google when you check rankings. If not you are likely seeing personalized results that only you can see.

I do see the site when I search for "77recipes" no space but that site has robots.txt issues

Third the page that does show up is currently a 404

So all of that needs to be fixed right away.

The website I see as #8 for "77 recipes" is http://greatist.com/health/healthy-crock-pot-recipes

Lets use that for this example. Next I measure the factors I think matter the most for the search term and I identify which ones my website is deficient in.

    upload_2017-2-27_9-58-20.png

Anytime my website is lower than #1 or page 1 average for a factor I mark it as red. The orange cells are statistically significant correlation coefficients that indicate that these factors appear to move the needle in terms of rankings for this keyword.

As you can see #8 is not ideally tuned to be competitive against number 1 OR the average measures for page one. So the key is going to be measuring you competitors and continuing to tune until you reach competitive parity.

Technically all you need to do this kind of analysis is a spreadsheet.

I just started guessing at factors and started taking measurements and doing the math. Now I have tools that automate everything and check over 300 factors every time I look at a keyword, but minimally you just need to take good measurements. I have a post over here where I list the kinds of things I measure: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/google-ranking-factors.900509/#post-9555775

your post is VERY useful when we analyse on page, what about offpage ? do you use ahrefs or majestics to analyse backlinks ?

We know backlinks are a factor. You don't need software to tell you that part. Build quality links to your pages. For online retail I often only have to build about a dozen backlinks to rank well for the lower competition stuff. BUT I make sure that my pages are optimally tuned first so I can minimize the amount of link building I have to do. Link building is the hard expensive part for most people. It is a good place to maximize effectiveness and minimize investment if possible.

Beyond that not all links are equal so you basically have to lather rinse and repeat until you get the desired outcome, but if you do that without being optimally tuned on page then plan to waste a lot of time and effort.

I asked that, because i was thinking to copy competitors backlinks, and to do that crawlers of ahrefs and majestics are differents.
still don't know which one is better.

anyway, i will try building good links to my money site. thanks for your help.

Only a small portion, in most cases, will you be able to or want to copy. You can sink a lot of time in that. Just get links that meet your standards and know there is likely a finite amount that gets you to your desired goal. ... provided you are targeting reasonable terms to begin with.

Feel free to buy tools if you want. But I find this is a place where many SEOs can reduce costs with little to no impact on their results.

For backlink analysis I preferred Majestic. As @validseo said, you need to spend a lot of time doing competitors links. But if you can do it then go ahead. And for the competitor analysis, i am using Long Tail Pro here. I don't believe in any tools, but as you are asking tools recommendation, so I will vouch for LTP.
