Tools for SEO Research

I have a few niches picked out and would love to start a site and get going on some SEO but the thing that holds me back is my inability to size up my competition.

I have studied up on the various methods for increasing PR but it seems as though tools undoubtedly exist that provide more in depth information about the backlinks and traffic and general SEO of competition sites. Does anybody have any suggestions or maybe recommendations about various tools, free or otherwise that they use and have helped them?

Use Ahrefs for researching your & your competitors data of Backlinks. For researching keyword difficulty, use semrush. Use Serpfox for tracking SERPs. And finally, Use linksearching tool for building quality backlinks.

I also need to know that. As I am broke right now I cannot afford to buy any expensive tool :(

Its nice.. Here is information and one thing if you try to increase PR its waste, because latest google update doesn't provide PR nowadays. You may use 7th sense recommend tools. Have a knowledge about it or noob?

Sorry I forgot to use multi quote..

If you use free seo tools its not that much efficient or need free tools you may try free online seo tools. You just google it like "free seo tools". Here you can get solution first page itself. My opinion you could try with price tools its more clever ever.
 
IMO ahref and SEMrush are good option to study well about SEO.
