Took Over SEO Duties on a Website - Question About the Structure

Ok so I got to work on a law website, decent stats and performance:


However, I don't think I like the site structure, but wanted to check what you guys think before I propose any changes.

So they have office in NY, but also do work in other states as all of it can be done online, but they don't have actuall locations there.

Each state has it's page, for example Lawyer California, and then from there you can see all services they offer, meaning the structure is

site.com/california/immigration-law
site.com/california/visa-law
etc

This creates KW cannibalization where for example site.com/california/immigration-law competes with site.com/florida/immigration-law for immigration law KW

What I would like to do is make services pillar pages from which you go down, for example:

site.com/immigration-law/california
site.com/immigration-law/florida
etc

This restructure would put emphasis on services themselves rather than locations. I also believe it would help with cannibalization since the pillar page would now be ranking for the main keyword, for example site.com/immigration-law/ would rank for immigration law.


Hope this makes sense - thoughts?

they both get attention, but people have a life outside of BHW (especially on weekends), so give it time, you basically posted this less than 20 minutes after the initial post, and that's called impatience

Also, I was inclined to reply to your thread, but I see that it touches on local SEO stuff, and I'm not very good with that, so I'll let others reply...
