I believed this is already common sense but I was stalking a competitor website for a year and observed how it came from the #1 in first page of serp to last page because he just simply added 4-5 popups in his homepage.

We all know google hates popunders, what about push notifications and banner ads?

I use only banners ads, Imo too many pop ads just not good for UI, visitors and make them leave yout site quickly, because every visitors hate annoying ads

It is a known fact that google will demote pages with too many ads, and it does not matter what type of ads you are using. They have a threshold, so if you have too many ads and pass that threshold (ratio of ads to content), your rankings will drop.
 
Watched a top competitor tank from page 1 to last just by adding 4–5 popups Google may hate popunders, but push notifications and banner ads can hurt too if overused.
