To Write Or Not To Write

Hello there my fellow hatters,

I am in a crossroad here and would like you to chip in on my situation. My 2 biggest competitors both have 7000 pages worth of content. I have a mere 100. Now, should I focus on creating more fresh content or focus on ranking the pages that are already live?

Some facts:

- We(I and my competitors) try to rank for almost every page
- I am already few places behind them and in in few cases in front of them
- Every single page of mine has 500 Unique words , while they use no more than 150-200 COPIED content

Do both. Lol I know that doesn't sound like the greatest advice in the world, but it is probably your best strategy. I would ramp up the content creation side of things and develop a good strategy for turning out a strong and consistent number of backlinks for your new content.

Thats a lot of copied content. Are they using autoblog sites or something? If they are its only a matter of time before they get penalized. Also, how long have they been around.

It really depends on how you are doing with the existing content. Is it bringing in enough income to support the spending on expansion? If not I would rank the pages you have so that you can expand the site using money generated from the site. Honestly a 500 page site should be self supporting so if it is not then I would make it so first.

You're using unique and they are using copied content. Well, that means it is only a matter of time when you'll outrank that guy. Just keep up with your SEO efforts.

And may be put some time and effort in creating more unique content. That would hit the nail even hard.

One of them has is a new site, just like mine around 10 months old, the other one is like 8 years old

Hi mate, you make a good point here. Just one thing its not 500 pages yet, its 100.

This depends on so many things that it's hard to say. If you're talking about ranking for a specific sub set of keywords then I'd just backlink your existing pages until you get past the other sites. If you've got stronger links/velocity in place then you'll out rank your competitors regardless of how many pages they have. Although I do still recommend that you regularly update the site with fresh content. It can only help.
