Before I buy used or expired domain, what tool should I use for a background check?

For expired domains at least, I would also use the waybackmachine on the internet archive to make sure that the old website that was on the expired domain was legit.

In addition to the above I would also use screenshots.com to see what the site used to look like. Also for expired domains you can also go to domainpeel.com.
