To edit or not to edit

Hi,

So, I'm having a Seo guy crisis. I have a new website, which has a...main article. This article was delivered by someone else and unfortunately, it has some grammar mistakes and the readability spot from Yoast is orange, instead of green. It also has the keyword used not enough time, this being a red spot problem. :))

But...guess what? It began to rank. These days it was somewhere in the first 10 pages, but right now it's the first result from the third page.

Now...I would like to edit it, so that all the spots from Yoast to become green. But, I fear that by doing so, the website will lose its rank and I don't really know if it's worth the effort.

What do you advise me to do? Would the grammar mistakes and the keyword problem derank the website in the long term?

perhaps changing the main keyword and the title can de rank your page but fixing grammar won't do a thing
 
Fixing simple grammar mistakes shouldn't really affect rank. Rewriting article completely might, considering you change the KW densities. Also, don't really follow Yoast. It's an automated tool that will make your site pretty overoptimized if you follow it to the point. It has its uses, but readability isn't one of them.

Well, I won't rewrite the parts with grammar mistakes, because I see that it ranked a little bit, even with those, so I think those won't really affect the way it ranks in the long term, but I may be wrong. By the way, the keyword density is with red, so it is too low. I would like to add the keyword a few more times across the text. Do you think this will derank it?

Yes Yoast readability is generally ignored by most users, no matter what you do it'll never be right
 
Fix the grammar mistakes and increase the keyword density. Also try to place your keyword in headings, you may also use keyword in alt tags of images. By doing this you may increase rank. Try guest post, PBN or some other Off-page seo techniques to have better results.
 
Yoast is...bollocks.

Correct the grammar.

Look at WHY it ranks.

Perhaps the writer deserves more credit than you're giving them.

Perhaps they added keyword variations and related terms....LSI aware.

Pwerhaps you're just looking at the main keyword density when Google isn't.....suggestions to just increase the density with no other investigation are moronic.
 
Following Yoasts advice to get a green will potentially cause over optimization. Happened to be before when I used to care about what Yoast says. Now I just ignore it and go with what has worked for me, and what's working for my competitors.

Not just grammar, you can also improve the article here and there, add a bit of content, and what not; improving the content can sometimes improve rankings.
 
Fixing grammar will not influence the rankings you got now.
Also check by which keywords you already rank do not remove them from the page.
