TLD Dilemma: .digital VS .com

Hi guys,

Not sure if this is really the place to post this, but anyway, I have a dilemma! Hope someone can give me some great advice.

Anyway... I'm planning on starting a Digital Creative Agency. Offering creative solutions (logos, banners, copy etc.), SEO, Social Media Marketing, stuff like that. It's EXTREMELY hard to think of a brand/agency name. I'm not even talking about finding an SEO related one, just thinking of a name in general is already hard enough; but then having to find an available .COM? HELL.

So here's the thing, do you think I can fly with going for a .digital (or maybe .social) VS a .COM. The name I like (not SEO/Social media related), isn't available for .COM, but is AVAILABLE for .digital and .social.

Should I just go for the .digital? Or should I think of a new name that has an available .com? Take note, the name I like isn't SEO Related at all, so how does that go about with the rankings? Do you think I should still look for a name that's either SEO related or has a .COM (or both). I'm not really sure if TLD's like .digital and .social are harder to rank. Or what is the perception of people on these kinds of tlds?

For SEO, both are same. But when it comes to branding .com is obvious choice. Most of the people use .com just for branding.

General consensus here seems to be that .com is king. As for a name, sometimes simpler is better. Maybe just use your last name? (I.e JohnsonDigital.com)

.COM all the way, think of a brandable name that has .COM available and get it.

As a domainer .com is the choice BUT to market yourself and brand since it is the digital field you are into I dont see anything wrong with it. Just make sure to also capture the .com version and forward it back to the .digital domain.

Also remember that .com is assumed which gives it natural authority. mental authority.

recently i try ranking .science domain extension and its not working at all.

I'd go for .com but if you want you could always get the matching .digital as well and have it forward to your .com. This would only be useful if you advertise the .digital or plan to at a later time though. Like this:

****.com
****.digital

****digital.com
****.digital

With the .digital forwarding to the .com

I would choose .com instead of any new TLD crap they released. There's a reason why all big brands use .com (.org and .net)

What about .io? I have seen lots of startups with .io domains

OP I had the same dilemma a few weeks ago. I found an awesome one word .digital domain and it sounded pretty catchy (at least to me). I chose to go with the .com instead as people naturally know that pretty much any website is going to be on a .com. I've met clients in the past that didn't even know you could buy .net or .info domains. Surprising but true.

Looks like the consensus here is to go with a .com. I just have to think harder, I guess.
