For my website most money keywords I have been in position 1 & 2 (with a double) or 2 & 3 (with a double), this has been the case for many years.

Out of no where Google has shortened by Title Tags to just the company brand name and have dropped 1- 2 positions in rankings despite doing backlinks.

No matter what I change my titles to, after 3 - 4 days Google shorterns them again.

Any suggestions how to fix or what I am doing wrong?

how many characters are the titles that you are writing? maybe it is too long, and that is why google shortens it

also, are you sure google is doing this? maybe it is your theme, seo plugin or something else you added recently that is delivering such behavior in your title tag

its about 60 characters and theres no SEO plugin, added or changed.

homepage, its shortened to the brand name only and removed the keywords after
i have seen google changing site description, but hardly any around titles

is your title clickbait? is it keyword stuffed?

without giving away your keyword and niche, can you let us know what your title is?

Make sure that each page on your site has a useful and descriptive page title (contained within the title tags). If a title tag is missing, or if the same title tag is used for many different pages, Google may use other text we find on the page. The HTML suggestions page in Webmaster Tools lists pages where Google has detected missing or problematic title tags. (To see this page, click Diagnostics in the left-hand menu of the site Dashboard. Then click HTML suggestions.)"
- Quote from Google's official Review your page titles and snippets
These are some of the reasons why Google changed your page title.
  • Keyword stuffing.
  • Title tag too long.
  • Less meaningful.
  • Google has got no content on your site to set as title, hence the URL.
