Web hosting companies of BHW show me your mad skills!!!

So I purchased a vps from well know web hosting provider. Just a basic 2gb win2008 one. Which worked fine for a while till I needed more spec. What was cool about it was somehow they built the OS so it only used 600mb of the 2000mb. I've just brought an 8gb vps from another provider and the win2008 OS uses half the memory!

How the hell did they get win2008 to only use 600mb of memory!?

Also any tips for taking load off the CPU would be cool. I only need Apache, mysql and Firefox to run on it. I've done the basics like disabling unused services and roles.

It is very hard to answer accurrately to your question without having more details.
However, if windows is using 4 GB at start up something is wrong.

The virtualization tech used by your provider may increase the start up memory used, but 4 GB seems a bit high.
You may have also purchased a VDS which is shared accross several user accounts (highly unlikely though)

I would definitly open a support ticket.

Not sure and it's very difficult but that sounds like the RAM is being oversold and not dedicated.

If you need only Apache, MySQL and Firefox, consider switching to Linux.
