I've done mass page sites before but I'm about to launch one with a lot of pages and it's all legit and white hat so I don't really want to use paid indexing services.

Does anyone have any tips for naturally getting more pages indexed on Google?

Here is what I'm thinking so far.

1) keep the pages small and optimised
2) gain / build quality links
3) easy to follow navigation for Google bot
4) upload sitemap

Anyone got anything they can add?

I always make sure to look at these to optimize crawl budget :
- Internal links are important. I always make sure there are no orphan pages and every page has at least a link from another page on the site
- Fast loading page and small in size
- Reduce the number of facet links (if the site has) or nofollow them if possible
- Nofollow or noindex search pages or unnecessary pages created by queries. For example on my video site using JWPlayer, every single video post site.com/post1 has another URL site.com/post1?jwsourcecl. Basically one post with 2 URLs. The 2nd URL is automatically created by JWPlayer. So if I have 1000 videos then there will be 1000 stupid URL like that. It's a waste of crawl budget and Google see them as duplicates. So I nofollowed and noindexed them all. Another example is an eCommerce site it's the internal search function that creates many search pages for every single search query. For established sites this can be checked in GSC

Old post promoter plugin with RSS linked to social accounts with IFTTT. The daily sharing to social media will keep the bots spidering your site and will increase indexing. This worked well with my old splog sites.

Thanks guys, some great ideas there :-)

Does it have to be an active social media account or can I just create a new twitter profile for each website?

Any does the trick, but don't limit yourself to just a twitter account. It's possible to auto post to lot's of platforms like wordpress.com, blogger, tumblr, twitter, facebook, pinterest, reddit and many more. Great for getting auto blogs or splogs indexed, but wouldn't recommend for WH money sites.
