Hi guys, anyone can share their experience, tips or decent articles regarding developing and promoting e-commerce stores? Feedback highly appreciated! thanks

first you need to make sure and follow big ecommerce companies and how they are doing it
social media like twitter , facebook.
then may be you can work on SEO ,providing special offers and Email Marketing...

do something different , like freebies and giveaways and arranging competitions... make it go viral...

cheers!

thanks techblog, i am looking for ideas for freebies, and also to build loyal customers for running shoes e-shop.

Get a decent brand.
Create a nice great looking shop.
Get prices right.
Promote them and satisfy them.
Make some % in profit.

I've had my ecommerce shop for 9 years. For years I've relied on Google to drive traffic to my shop and it worked for most of that time. However recent updates have seen my site and my small competitors dumped down the rankings and replaced by massive blue chip companies. Sites like Marks & Spencers (huge retailer in the UK) are in the top spots when they have just a single page or two selling my products, whereas myself and other small competitors specialize in these products only yet G gives the big department store preference over the little guy.

Wikipedia, eBay and Amazon take the other spots. If I were a searcher I'd be very disappointed in the front page results. 2 of the department stores in the top 3 do not have any stock at the moment (it's a seasonal product). How the hell does G rank a page that is out of stock?

So I've turned to eBay, Amazon and FB. There's huge amounts of traffic from those sites. I'll let them concentrate on the traffic and SEO while I'll spend more time making and selling more of my product. And Google can go f*ck themselves.

Don't put too much effort into Google, it'll probably be a waste of time. There's plenty of traffic elsewhere as people have already pointed out. Social is the future, Google is not. Oh and learn about media buying too...

now that's tricky!!
people have become smarter and google is their friend , what you can do is offer some freebie with the shoe which looks expensive or redemption offer points or may be some other catchy idea....

think out of the box , make the strategy viral :D

Its not about price, its about perceived value. Why do people buy lamborghinis when they could just buy a honda civic which functionally is the same? Because Lamborghini is perceived to be cool, affirm your social status, make you feel good about yourself.

Basic marketing.. also think of the king size pop-corn. The guy who invented that realised people might sometimes want to buy popcorn, but there was just 1 regular size, and sometimes they might want more than just a regular size. However, they are not going to buy 2 regular sizes, cos that would just make them feel like they are a gluttonous fatty.

So, he invented KING size, oh yeah, that's the size for the KINGS! Now you can have double the popcorn, spend double the money, and it still makes you feel great!

google shopping is great way to get real clients. It used to be free but not anymore but still the CPC is not that huge as the keywords have little to no competition.

Using a reliable ecommerce platform is a must. Like oscommers, opencart etc.

Once you have clients, customer support is the most important thing for the long term business.

PM me if you need any specific advice. I am running few stores myself.

wow, guys you rock! thanks for all those ideas:)

If you're trying to sell the same shoes as every one else for more money you might be able to do it but it will take a lot more work and money.
thats me!
