    Hi,
My client has a pretty successful off-line wine store that is located in a big city of a small country in europe.
He wants to launch an eccomerce website and own the online wine niche in the country.
The biggest competitor in the niche got pretty nice on-site optimization but no articles at all - only products.

What would be a good strategy for owning the niche?
Should I launch another website that focuses on local seo to generate leads for the main website?
    Should I launch a pbn?

Feel free to tell me what you would do if you were to serve that client.
    Thank you very much!

Analyze the competition and make it better.

What are the product pages like on the competition's page? Can it be done better? Better details? Better photos? Better information about it?

Having articles about wines and explaining it can be helpful and will show potential customers that your client 'cares' about his products. Especially if its local wines which you can sue to market locally.

If you can create content and market on the CURRENT website, go for it. Creating another website just to generate local SEO doesn't seem worth it, especially when websites like Yelp and other 'local business review' websites exist. Launching a PBN can be helpful as well but I would focus more energy on what's available now, which is the client's current website.

    1) Create product pages.
    2) Create unique articles pages.
    3) Generate a lot of comments for (1) and (2)
    Done!

e-commerce sites are a pain in the ass to rank.
Gotta pump up the blog for SEO, product pages dont do shit (thin content).

If you want to own the niche improve on the design. Does the competitor give food pairings for wine? You could give food pairings and recipes to use with your wine to make it the "full experience"

If your client got money, simply launch a eCommerce site and buy mentions of top local news sites and other major news sites.

of all the ecommerce websites to land as a client its the one I like drinking the most :)

Seriously though I think you've got real lucky if they've got proper money to spend, wines a great one to blog about and get massive links from so many sources of relevance, it works well on social, the website even provides an outlet for clients(restaurants etc) to order directly, goes well with apps as well - don't think your owning this market without apps - food networks etc, it works everywhere, there's a never ending stream of ways to get into peoples pockets, probably because its such a damn good product which means there's always a place for a newcomer because there's so much to do its highly unlikely every one has done it all, especially not locally.

If they've got the money for this one I envy you, really envy you, you've struck wine, sorry I mean gold. The amount of resources you'll gain for other projects as a bi product of this is scary, Say it one more time, extremely jealous, hats off to you but I deserve this client more.

You haven't actually said how many countries this is going to be in, or even what language, are they exporting and from where, understandable if I find them I will poach them :)

or what platform your using, or is it custom, how many products, etc etc.
To be honest this don't sit right, wine stores will be turning millions (and millions) and randomly your in a black hat forum asking how to penetrate that market specific niche market. fishy, i think I've just been sucked in by a troll
