    Hi guys.

    Just wanted to share a recent experience I had with a site that I had been fighting with for a few months.

    Basically, the site is in a fairly competitive niche that gets around 2 million searches per month according to gkwt {broad match|local searches} .

    Make a long story short I had been dipping between #1 on page 2 and bottom of page 1 for about a month straight. I got frustrated and bought 2 pr 4 domains and one pr 3 and slapped a few homepage links up which got me to number 8 where the site stayed permanently.

    Out of desperation (and also going on a hunch based on things I had heard a year or two ago about this) I shelled out $300 for a yahoo directory listing.

    One week to the day after my site being approved and listed it is now #1 for my keyword which leaves me with no choice but to believe that google still sees the link from the yahoo directory as holding some serious weight - and in my situation none of my first page competitors had the listing either which also may have played a role.

    If you have it to spare and you happen to be up against some stiff competition that doesn't have a yahoo directory listing it may be worth giving it a try as it certainly made the difference in my case.

    Best Regards..

    Thanks a lot..By the way is there any possibility other backlinks effected so much your strategy the period after the listing,that you made an ''fake'' assumption yahoo dir actually did it by its own?

    That's an awesome ! If Y! doesn't approve MONEY BACK?

    Also, does Y! approves in thin affiliate sites like triactol & the stuff?

    That's a good question, and to be honest I really don't think so mainly because of the amount of time I was stuck.

    Once I got the yahoo listing approved and my links started showing on multiple pages in the directory my rankings just jumped out of nowhere.

    I have heard similar reports in the past but never gave it a try until now. Glad I did.

    No, you don't get your money back if they don't approve you. It's not likely that they will deny you but I definitely would submit a thin affiliate site. Probably not worth it IMO.

    The site I submitted is a community so I really have nothing to compare against to be honest.

    I think they frame it as being a review fee...so no refund if they turn you down. I'm pretty sure you get one extra chance though to resubmit, so if the turn down is from a missing privacy policy or something like that you get a chance to fix it. But thin sites....don't waste your money.

    Your probably right. I can't give an honest opinion on how they review sites but I agree, a micro niche site or anything similar would be a waste of time.

    In my case with the ranking increase I made my investment back in the first 48 Hrs..

    Before you go,be sure that you meet the below critireas:
    Code:
    https://ecom.yahoo.com/dir/reference/submit

    3.1 All web sites submitted to Yahoo! Directory Submit must meet the following minimum criteria:

    -If the site is a commercial web site, the official business name must be visible to any visitor to that site;
    -The site must clearly define its purpose, products, and/or services;
    -The site may not appear in the Directory under a different URL;
    -If the site is applicable to a specific geographic region, the address must be visible to any visitor to that site;
    -The site must not contain any parts under construction;
    All links on the site must function properly;
    -The site must be in the English language (or have an English version available);
    -The site must support multiple browsers and capabilities (e.g., no Java-only sites);
    -The site must be up and running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
    -The site must not be dedicated to directing the user to another page;
    -The page may not give the search engine different content than what the end-user sees.

    THESE CRITERIA ARE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ONLY, AND YAHOO!, IN ITS SOLE DISCRETION, MAY CONSIDER OTHER CRITERIA BEFORE ACCEPTING, REJECTING OR REMOVING A SITE.

    Interesting...assuming the increase in traffic/revenue over the time series following the submission, seems like it would pay for itself if one only has a decent money site. However, one of my sites is in the hotel sector, and I'm not confident that the Yahoo submission would propel me to #1 for the kw, even though I'm on the 1st page (thanks to tips learned on BHW!)...top competitors have an insane number of links. Also, not ready for my wife's reaction to a $300 submission. ;-) May try this down the road, however.

    Yep, it was definitely a good investment for me. Haven't done any adsense in years and all of a sudden It looks like I am going to be getting some steady checks from them again (along with some nice cpa income) provided the rankings hold.

    Like I said, if it's not a worthwhile niche I wouldn't waste my time, but the scenario called for it.

    P.S. Your wife will be all over you if you turn the $300 into $3000 ! ;)

    My experience too is that it can help break a site to the top...

    I've only used it on proper commercial sites though. Not MNS or MFA/thin sites. If you've got a proper established authority site with some reasonable PR in a competitive environment it can make all the difference, as most people seem to forget about it these days.

    Yep, as I noted above the $300 investment was recouped within 48 Hrs in combined adsense/cpa earnings.

    Totally agree.

    This site is in a niche where the competing sites are not really seo savvy but have tons of natural links because they are just so popular.

    It seems that even when homepage links didn't do the trick the yahoo directory link packed quite a punch. Just enough to make my site be deemed as an authority I would say.

    Good work. You may see a drop in rank one day. Buy some high pr blogroll links will push you back up. if your making that much dosh i would straighten your site buy buying links even if you dont drop and add lots of good content.

    Yea, I just got a few more high pr domains so I throw a few more links on those soon as well.

    I'll most likely keep the yahoo links subscription for as long as the site earns also.

    Far as content is concerned it's all user generated as it is a community site so I should be good to go on that end.

    Gary

    What experiences have you had with puchased High PR links?

    I've had bad experiences with home-page (and in some cases site-wide - which I wasn't told about) purchased links; as Google has penalised the sites (Since they were an isolated test, I presume that they were penalised for puchasing links, as home-page links can look suspect.)

    Most PR link services I've tried have made very little difference.
