Times when the internet makes life more difficult!

A little sideline for me is repairing domestic electrical goods because, well I can and I enjoy it.

I used to be able to repair items quite quickly because I would determine the problem, go to a local store and purchase the components required and replace them.

The local store has recently closed down!! I could purchase individual components for pennies there. My options now are, look on eBay, pay for a pack of 10, 20, 50+ components many of which I may never need again and wait anything from 3 days to 6 weeks before receiving them.

Whilst the internet may be good for many of you here, it can be a nightmare for us guys that still work offline. I know times are changing but not necessarily for the better for everyone.

Anyone else face issues such as these?

You should have made them an offer for some of their stock
 
It's not worth while for most sellers to supply small quantities of one off items.

Don't get me wrong, the components work out far cheaper online but it's dead money if I have to buy 30 of this and 100 of that and I'm only going to use one or two of them.

Then there's the waiting time for items to be posted and some sellers don't seem to have the same concept of urgency for putting things in the post!!

As it's only a sideline it's not worthwhile me keeping large stocks of components.
 
yes, a lot of offline store closed because a lot of people online
but fortunately the food cafe or other who sell food still survive on this online era
 
What a time to be alive, brick-and-mortar stores that have been serving the locals for decades, some for centuries, are closing down due to amazon, Walmart and shit like that.

Just lol, where's the justice in all of this?

i would have made the store an offer for some of their stock and sold the rest that i didn't need. As they were closing you'd get it at a good price. I used to deal in liquidated stock, you can get things for pennies and sell for pounds, liquidators just want to move stock on so normally sell for cheap
 
You don't have any other stores close by that sell parts? Radio Shack, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. should have similar stuff.
 
Not sure about your locality, but mine still has a market for the electronic components. If I needed a capacitor, I will go there instead of ordering 100 pieces online lol. I believe online shops do not sell those parts individually because of the low profit margin for each part, plus the shipping costs involved.

I'm in the uk. There are very few places left that do this type of thing. A small independent store closed about 6 months ago and the big boys here in the uk, Maplin, went into administration a few months ago. My local store closed a few weeks ago.

Changing times house of Fraser is now in trouble, you adapt or go under. More people shop online now
 
Actually this is a bigger problem for people who are not much tech savvy and rely on offline work completely. Internet is needed for almost everything and one has to evolve to survive.

Radio shack is dead, never saw Lowe's and hd have electric components and their prices are way too expensive.
