Hello everyone,

I've recently launched a new e-commerce website and I'm curious about the typical timeframe to start ranking in search engine results with targeted keywords, especially in a competitive niche. The site is brand new, so I'm fully aware of the challenges ahead, particularly in terms of SEO and building a backlink profile.

My questions to the community are:

  1. How long did it take for you to see visible results in the SERPs for new websites, especially after initiating targeted backlink-building campaigns?
  2. Which strategies or methods have you found most effective in speeding up this process?
  3. Are there specific tools or resources you would recommend to aid in building backlinks and improving SEO performance?
  4. How do you deal with competition, especially in markets with high levels of competition?
I'm particularly interested in hearing from those who have experience with building e-commerce sites and how they overcame initial hurdles to get their sites ranked.

Thanks in advance for your input and advice!

It can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months to see visible results in the SERPs for new websites, especially if you're targeting competitive keywords. It's important to be patient and consistent with your SEO efforts.

1. I don't build any links for about 2 months after I launch (Shopify) so I pay the fees regardless but no links. After I start to build links it can take a month or two for the first medium-range keywords to appear on the 8-9 page. This always depends but the main keyword that I rank is usually the hardest and is my home page so when it comes to competitive niches you likely wont be anywhere near page 1 even after 6-9 months. Determine "competitive".. what's that? KD 40-50?? The page 1 is always taken by established e-commerce sites in that specific niche...

I built a fresh site less than a month ago and there are still no links... my keywords popped up on SEMrush within 2 weeks.. those are all low-difficulty kws.

2. There is no safe strategy to speed any processes up like that. What I usually do is run SEO audits on my competitors sites on page 1 and they usually don't pass these tests when it comes to on-page SEO (the vast majority of Shopify sites don't) so I make sure my site is above in that criteria.

3. There are no tools that can help you build backlinks... at least not any that will actually help you. All these automatically built links either don't give you any push or will do you more harm than good. You can use automated tools for outreach if you want but for backlinks in your niche, it's not necessary... you won't have the budget anyways to buy thousands of links so you can reach out to the webmasters manually.

4. Your site's visual appearance plays a pivotal role in this... In my niches or those that I am currently looking at all my competitors sites are below standards when it comes to visual appearance. There isn't much you can do when you can't outrank them, try to look better as customers don't visit a single site.. they like to browse or weigh their options.
