Last time I see:
a) spammers, who coming to forum and posting from Newbie account multiple spam posts. It's easy to detect them by moderators. They live mostly 10 minutes
b) guys like "discount please", "code please", "review copy please", who are posting like a machine gun. It's not so easy to ban them, they are not breaking a lot of rules, so moderators sometimes delete their posts but you need to report them
c) even more aged accounts, but woke up after few months and writing posts like "thank you", "I agree", "good" -> when I see the guy post like that every minute, I know he is racing for Jr.VIP

Why to not introduce posting time limit for everyone on forum? For example one post every 10 minute? People will think twice before post. It will also calm down spammers.

BHW uses Xenforo, there are plugins for that and they are not killing server. After somebody click "Post", it's checking the time for his last post and stop him for 10 minutes.

I think that could be set up for newer accounts, but as they age,, that could be reduced

You don't even need a plugin for this feature as it's inbuilt in xenforo. I think mods allowed comments to make newbies comfortable as there is already a learning curve like DMs, restricted sections, selling services etc. Mods might have left it intentionally to give some freedom for newbies. If there are too many restrictions, some legit newbies might never return. Like every other platform, BHW wants people to stay here longer and have higher engagement.

Good point.

I’ve been on forums that had restrictions like that and they were no less spammed than BHW. People just waited 10 minutes to spam.

Wouldn’t make for a welcome environment for newbies either.

Isn’t there already something similar in place already? I remember that above one of my posts I saw a text saying something like “this post is waiting for approval from a mod”. It was one of my earlier posts and I think I made about 3 posts in a row.

This would reduce interaction on the forum. A term we have used many times in the office is "using a boulder to kill an ant".
Unlikely to happen.
