I’ve been testing TikTok Ads for a few campaigns and noticed mixed results. On one hand, the platform seems perfect for viral reach and low CPMs. But I’m not sure how well it works when the target is local customers like restaurants, gyms, or salons, compared to global brands pushing ecom products.

Local businesses might struggle since TikTok’s targeting isn’t as precise as FB/Google, but global brands seem to benefit from the massive audience and trend-driven content.

Anyone here running TikTok Ads for local businesses? Do they convert, or is TikTok really only worth it for broader/global campaigns?

For local, the main issue is targeting radius. You can set city-level targeting, but the reach isn’t always strong unless your area is big.

I’ve seen local gyms and cafes win on TikTok, but only when they run UGC-style ads that look native. Polished brand ads don’t do much.

So the problem is not that TikTok prohibits these fields, but that TikTok users are not interested in these fields. If so, the author of the article should redirect to Facebook to reach a wider range of users.

TikTok is cheap traffic compared to FB/IG. But for local, I’d combine TikTok with Google Maps/FB ads, since those have stronger intent.

I think TikTok works best for global brands with broad appeal, but local businesses can still see success if they nail the creative and tap into local trends or geo-targeting—just need to tweak the approach a bit!

TikTok can work for local if the creative feels native and geo-targeting is tight, but it definitely shines more with global ecom and viral-friendly products.

I’ve found TikTok works better for local when you focus on geo-targeted ads and get super creative with local trends—it’s all about making the content feel native to that specific area!

I’ve tried TikTok for local stuff—CTR can be decent, but actual conversions are usually better for global ecom; local targeting still feels a bit rough.

You're right, the targeting isn't as precise. But you can mqke it work for local clients ( like gyms, salons) by treating it as a top-funnel awareness play. The key is using radius targeting (10-20 miles) and then creating native, trending content that attracts locals- think gym challenges or stunning haircut transformations with a "Link in Bio for [City Name]" CTA. Don't push a hard sale. The goal is profile visits, DMs, and website clicks. It won't drive instant bookings like Google, but the CPM is so low it's worth testing. It generates consistent, low-cost leads, but you have to be patient and think like a creator, not just an advertiser. It's a solid add-on to Meta/Google, not a replacement.

Honestly, for local businesses TikTok can be hit or miss—its targeting isn’t as sharp as Facebook or Google, so you often end up paying for impressions that don’t convert. Global ecom or trend-driven products do way better because the algorithm loves pushing content that already has viral potential. If you’re doing local, it only really pays off if your videos are super engaging and shareable; otherwise, stick to platforms where you can pinpoint your audience.

You've hit on a common observation—TikTok’s strength lies in broad reach, but precision targeting for local businesses can be tricky. While conversion might require more experimentation with hyperlocal targeting and compelling video content showcasing the business's unique appeal, many are finding success by focusing on community engagement and location-based hashtags alongside paid ads. Consider A/B testing different creative approaches and audience segments to optimize for your specific local market.

TikTok really shines for global or viral products, but for local businesses like restaurants or salons, the targeting isn’t precise enough, so conversions can be low unless your content naturally goes viral.

TikTok works better for broad or global offers, for local it can work but mostly as awareness, don’t expect it to beat Google or FB on direct leads.

TikTok works best for global/viral campaigns; local businesses can see results but need strong creatives and usually supplemental targeting channels.

From what I see TikTok better for global or wide offer bro, local stuff works only if content goes viral nearby, targeting not super tight like FB so many locals struggle.

For local businesses TikTok can work but you need super engaging content; otherwise global ecom campaigns get much better reach and ROI.

From what people here are running, TikTok Ads absolutely shine for global or broad e‑com plays low CPMs, viral reach, trend‑driven audience, and big scaling potential. Local stuff can work too, but it’s usually more about brand awareness and engagement rather than instant conversions because TikTok’s targeting isn’t as precise as FB/Google for local intent. Local wins come when the creative feels native and geo‑specific (UCG‑style, local trends, calls‑to‑action), but most folks still prefer TikTok for global audiences because the scale and algorithm push broad content harder.
