Thumbnail Fonts: Serif or Sans-Serif for Maximum CTR?

I don't think there is a single answer for that question, you could test and check what is working better for your specific audience and niche. A/B should be enough, upload 3 different thumbnails and let Youtube decide what is working better

Better to do A/B testing for all this type of questions

personally I’ve found bold sans-serif works better for thumbnails, it’s just easier to read and grabs attention faster while scrolling. stylized serif can look nice sometimes, but it doesn’t always work in every case.
I don’t really do proper A/B testing, I just make two versions and swap them after a bit to see which one performs better. fonts I’ve used a lot: Bebas Neue, Anton, Montserrat — simple and reliable.
and when I want to try new styles, I usually check dafontstyle, it’s easy to quickly find something that fits.
