So there's a physical brick and mortar business that has been getting threatening emails lately. Some bored fuck has been using the contact form on the website of the business to send life threatening emails. I dug around and found the IP addresses used to access the site and submit the forum. All the emails are coming from Seattle while the business is in Cali and doesn't operate in Seattle. One email even came from a Seattle library. This bum doesnt even have a computer?

So I wanted to know what you guys think should be done about it? What would you do if you were the business owner?

My current options are:
Within cloudflare I can blacklist the IP address they used previously.
I can also set up a cloaker and cloak all visitors from Seattle.

Any other TECHY suggestions?

That bum doesn't want to use his/her own computer/connection. Would you use your own computer/connection to send death threats to someone?

Contact the library. Explain to them what has been done to the business owner, from which IP and at which time. I don't know how it works in the US, but most likely they have cameras or time stamps on who's using the computer.

They might tell you to call the police instead, but they might also dislike the idea that someone is sending death threats from their computers - so they might try to look for the person as well. Most probably they won't give the persons name to you, but hopefully it will put some pressure on the guy sending threats.

I dislike cowards and bullies, especially when it's muppets on the Internet acting up, thinking they're safe. So contact the library would be my recommendation.

thanks. I like that idea.

I would threat anyone in the first place.
I guess, you meant "i wouldn't". :)

It's not the point. The point is that anyone who's not dumb as a rock wouldn't use his/her home connection/computer to send threats like that.
You can have the ip address logs, but more than likely similarly to the library, those either belong to free wifi hotspots or internet cafés.

If you think the threat is real, as the mod suggested above, contact the police and don't try to play Sherlock Holmes.
If you think that threat is not real, why bother? You must have better things to do.

To my knowledge library has always issues card for people using it's service, I think you can easily figure out him

Call the police is what I'd do. Either that or track the cunt down and remove his arms and legs, so he can not make any more threats.

a) ignore them.. probably just some bored kid
b) notify police and let them deal with it

sure you can blacklist their IP, but it takes 5 seconds to change proxy.

I'd code a simple script that generates unique cookies for each browser and save it into a database along with the timestamp so you can trace it back upon the form submission and match it with the timestamp. And when the douche visits your site again (which he probably would) and the cookie will trigger the backend and redirect to a page something similar to this with the caption "Your activities are being monitored. We're gonna catch you and beat your ass soon!"
