Threads algorythm caption system

Hey yall!

I’m currently trying to understand how the caption algorithm on Threads works. Captions seem to be extremely important because they can either open the door to the For You Page or completely shut it. Right now, I feel like duplication signals are one of the strongest factors, mainly because they’re cheap and easy for Meta to detect. That would mean stealing viral captions probably only works once before the system starts recognizing them.


What I’m more concerned about is how captions work together with images. Sometimes it feels like there’s some kind of AI analyzing what the picture is about, and if the image doesn’t match the caption, the post performs badly. But other times, it seems like the exact opposite happens.


So the real question is whether Meta actually links the caption to the image as one combined signal. And beyond that, is the Threads algorithm keyword-based? Does it actually try to understand the meaning of the caption, or does it mostly filter for keywords and sort posts into certain buckets based on what it thinks they belong to?

For this, you are going to have to use multiple devices with different accounts and then check which caption gets more impressions. This is what many users do when it comes to checking which posts get more engagement.
