Yesterday, one of my fresh (~ 1 year) blogs, I got ( already second time) a spike in direct visits. There are around 3.5k direct traffic, which for sure are bots as bounce rate is 99.99% and they stay for a second.

Why is someone doing this and what's the negative effect of it? except that it messes up the analytics

they are visiting to check if everything is OK. Why would that be a problem?
btw highly ethical name bro

Use cloudflare mate and select "under atack" mode. Or create your own rule by blocking specific countries, user agents, ip's etc

probably one of your competitors trying to nuke you out of the SERPs. But I don't think it will affect you
Probably, but it happened just on one ocassion and 50%/50% traffic came on homepage and on one of the articles

Good idea. As of now, it happened only twice - once around 8-9 months ago and once only few days ago. It does not seems reoccurring, but I will keep that in mind for sure. thanks!

if they are your best ranked pages you can bet your ass that your competitor is trying to take you down from the SERPs :)

I am used to this hanky panky just use cloudflare it will itself filter out the bad and bot traffic.
If you are being ddosed use the under attack mode in cloudflare settings.

Actually no. two pages apart from homepage are totally fresh - posted like few days ago.

Go to C-panel, then to Awstats, then look for your domain, then look for the month where you see the spike of bots and look down at the ip-s with the higest traffic, copy them, add them to the ban list.

yea, tried that and weird thing is that it's all unique IPs lol at least 90% of them

This can be because of some competitor trying to harm you. If you are doing SEO well, it will not have much impact.
