Thoughts re quality Tier 2

So I've just started testing creating some manual quality Tier 2 links with solid articles on to reference a Tier 1 link/s of ours, I'm just wondering what people have noticed eg how long it generally takes for the link to have any effect on the money site level?

I know for Tier 1, its pretty much 10 weeks to the date to see the first big uplift from a Tier 1 link, but I'm wondering what to look out for my tests.

Anyone got any advice and or tips welcome too.
