thoughts on disabling comments, will it affect ranking

sometimes youtube comments can be very hateful and harsh and i'm thinking about disabling comments, thoughts on this? will this affect ranking by a lot? any experience?

I don't think it would affect your ranking directly, no. But why not just remove the harsh comments? We know for a fact that engagement (whether positive or negative) is good for the algorithm, so you may be shooting yourself in the foot a bit. Also, usually when I see a video with disabled comments I click off.

YouTube counts comments as part of engagement. If you find yourself in a very competitive niche, it could affect your rankings.

YouTube is a social platform, meaning its a 2 way communication. If you disable the comments it becomes 1 way communication.

I don't know if its going to affect the rankings but it will be almost impossible to gain feedback on the content you create.

Without feedback you can't really improve your content, and without improving you most probably won't rank higher.
