Here is the thing,

This page was created way back by some 2 bit writer. I had long forgotten about it because it was always at page 5.

Recently I decided that I need to start ranking pages that are old, so I sent a link and now that page is dancing but confident enough to reach page 1.. Problem is that the products are outdated or not available.

I am thinking of removing the contents of that page and replacing it with brand new 2018 version.

My dilemma:
1.The page is dancing, it really wouldn't be wise to change anything right?
2. If it ranks for the content it has now, what would happen when I completely change the content?

My current plan is to wait for the dance to get over, then change the content and then ofcourse it will drop but to wait it out as it might come back better.

Still want to know what are your thoughts?

How about you put a giant image above the fold with your new products so that it is the first thing they see on the page.

In my opinion you can add the new content but don't remove the old one, or just edit it slightly.

If the content is ranking at page 5 - there's no harm to change the content on the page whatsover, as I don't think there are much traffic to begin with at page 5 on the SERP.
But if the content is ranked at page 1 or 2, then there should be some serious considerations.
Thus, with current ranking at page 5 - just go ahead and update it with fresh content. Be sure to be extra sensitive to your first and second starting paragraph, as google likes to use that as its own dynamic meta-description. Make sure to include your targeted keywords for ranking.

At a minimum, update the products. There's no point ranking a product or review page if the products are unavailable. In the long run, this might even hurt you as you are not satisfying user intent by reviewing non-existant or unavailable products.

I was on page 2 and I changed all the contents of the page and added new content. It was properly optimized (as before) and it took almost the same rankings and then moved on to rank #1 in the next few weeks. I would suggest going for it because if you don't update the content and do get ranked, the conversion would be minimal. Not worth the time and money that you'll invest.

You can consider doing some minor changes while being very careful for meta on page.

I will not recommend you to change the content. Yes, you can edit the content a bit but that can also affect your ranking.

IMO you can create a new version content replica of ranking content, so you would have good chances of getting ranked on top pages. If you change the existing content we don't know it will make the positive results or not.
